Coronavirus - Courts now closed.

The prime minister has announced strict new curbs on life in the UK to tackle the spread of coronavirus. From this evening, people must stay at home except for shopping for necessities, daily exercise, any medical need and travelling to and from essential work.

Use of Courts

Your Tennis Committee has agreed that with immediate effect, our tennis courts should close until further notice.

New Courts

Having reached the funding target to deliver two new courts and other improvements to our facilities, we are determined not to lose the current momentum behind our project. Over the next three weeks, we will work with our funders to complete the paperwork and having met the LTA’s nominated technical officer on-court today, complete the tender specification for the works contract. All being well, we will go out to tender in late April. We want to be ready to place a contract with suppliers as soon as possible and try and complete our development plans late summer.

Annual Membership Packages

We will complete a revised cashflow to ensure that if we go ahead with our new courts project, we have enough working capital to get us through the next twelve months.

We still need your financial support. If possible, we need you to pay your annual membership subscriptions by the 1st April. However, we appreciate that many of our members may be facing financial uncertainty and therefore not want to commit to a payment this month.

We will commit to you that our membership year will be adjusted to start on the day we are able to reopen the courts and finish twelve months from this date.

In addition, as a valued existing member, we want you back playing tennis as soon as possible, so we will look at ways to help you and you family back on court, whatever the financial uncertainty, as we believe that participation in tennis activities is an excellent way to keep fit and is good for your well being.

Wimbledon Ballot

It is increasing unlikely that the 2020 Wimbledon tournament will go ahead but we will proceed with the Club ballot and notify Members of the outcome, even if we use the LTA online software.

Club Tournament

Our annual Club tournament is suspended, and we will now start working on a tournament to be staged on our new courts in September-October.

Finally, on behalf of your Tennis Committee, we hope that all members, families and friends remain safe and we look forward to playing tennis again soon. It's now the time we do our bit to support the NHS staff.
