2017/18 Oxfordshire Babolat Winter League Round-up

Our 4 teams played 41 matches in the Oxfordshire Babolat Winter League, winning 197 sets, an average of just under 5 sets per match.

Congratulations to the Ladies and Men’s A teams, who both won promotion from their respective divisions.

Also, both our A team captains finished top of the player statistics for their divisions, Paula Eastwood and Bruce Jobson.

The Ladies A finished top of division 4, with 65 points, 4 clear of Oxford City B. The ladies won 68% of their sets and 59% of their games. Paula finished top of the player stats with 13 sets and Jane Dudley was in the top 10.

The Ladies B finished a creditable 9th in division 6, with 32 points. The ladies won 44% of their games but 36% of their sets. Victoria Norris was in the top 20 player statistics.

The Men’s A finished 2nd in division 2, with an unbeaten record and 68 points. It was a close finish, going into the last match of the winter season and Marlow’s surprise 8-0 victory against Thame B, left Marlow top of the division and Thame B missed out on promotion, finishing 3rd. The men won 77% of their sets and 62% of their games. Bruce finished top of the player stats with 15 sets and Richard Jones, Garreth Anderson and Andrew Broadhurst all finished in the top 20. The Men’s A will play in division 1 next winter, the highest level of tennis our men’s team has reached.

The Men’s B finished 3rd in division 7, missing out on promotion for the 3rd consecutive year. The men won 57% of their sets and 55% of their games. Paul Gill and Tim Sheard finished in the top 5 of the player stats.

To compete the picture, our mixed doubles team finished 3rd in division 5 last summer and missed out on 1st place by one point. The team won 61% of their sets and 54% of their games. Paula, Jane, Adam Dudley, Jake Moon and Racheal Moon all finished in the top 21 of the player stats.

Looking forward to the summer league that starts at the end of April, the men have entered 3 teams and we have 2 ladies teams, and a mixed doubles team. The ladies are also playing in the mid-week league.

If you are not involved in one of our league teams and would be interested in playing competitive tennis, the team captains contact details are on our Club website www.kbstennis.org/club-contacts

Good luck to all our teams and I hope you enjoy your competitive tennis.
