Brief History

Situated in the centre of the village next to the Village Hall, Draycott Road, our Tennis Club was founded in 1985, through the efforts of some local tennis enthusiasts and the local community.

Our facilities have been developed through active fundraising by Club members and the support of the Village Hall Charity and Local Parish Council. Our Tennis Club is constituted as an unincorporated private members club (non-profit distributing) and the property is held by 4 trustees on behalf of our Club.

Our Tennis Club is run by a Management Committee of 12 volunteers and since 1st March 2016, we also buy-in 8-10 hours of administration services each month, which is designed to allow the volunteers to focus on delivering our Strategic Development Plan. Club Officers include the President, Chairperson, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Match Secretary, Welfare Officer.

The Club has contracts in place for cleaning and coaching services. We have three floodlit hard courts and one non-floodlit hard court, together with a well-equipped clubhouse and have a broad base of adult and junior players drawn from across the ward, who play throughout the year. We are rooted in our local community.

Our Tennis Club is proud of its heritage and its on-going success. It has an active membership of over 200, making it the largest sports and recreation club in the ward. Our membership is open to all standards, with our youngest members starting in development programmes at 5 years of age and we also have active members in their late sixties and seventies.

The whole philosophy of our Tennis Club is to encourage tennis participation in our local community, whether you are a competitive league player or just want to bring the family along to hit a ball in the summer. To achieve greater participation, we have an excellent track record of offering membership fees that are the lowest in the county, which together with our active junior coaching programme, is the cornerstone of our success.
