16 players (8 men and 8 ladies). The intention is to encourage social play but in a competitive tournament format.

Format – Draw and Handicap

Each of the 8 men and 8 ladies entered into the Tournament will be seeded, creating two men’s (‘A’ and ‘B’) and two ladies pools (‘A’ and ‘B’).

The draw will then be made, pairing men and lady players, one from the ‘A’ pool and one from the ‘B’ pool.

The following handicap will be applied to individual players:
• -15 – Men’s and ladies B Team league players
• Zero – Ladies C Team league players
• +15 – Any entrants that have not played for a team in the winter league.

Individual player handicaps will be added together to give the ‘pairing’ handicap for the tournament.

The seeding, handicap calculations and draw will take place on Wednesday, 16th May at the Management Committee. The draw will be posted on the KBS Tennis website.

Format – Play

Round robin – Two groups of 4 pairs.

All matches will be short sets, maximum 8 games per match, with a tie break at 4-4.

Top 2 teams in each group go through to the semi-final.

Semi-finals – Runners up play winners

Final – Winners of semi-finals.

Format – Scoring

A point is earned for every game won; excluding a tie break (Maximum points per match would be 8), plus 4 points for a match win.

Timings

Start at 1000.

Best estimate, allowing for a 5 minute warm-up between matches, is the final at 1500.

Refreshments

It is hoped that the 14 players that are not involved in the final, will stay and watch.

At the end of the semi-finals, a light buffet will be available with wine.

Soft drinks will be available.

The competition will be open to all members – the winning lady and man will be at the top of their respective ladder at midnight on 30^th October 2012.  Trophies will be presented at the Club’s Christmas celebration.

Administration of the competition will be through a link on the Club’s website.  Results will be posted online and the ladies’ and men’s ladders will be updated automatically.

Breaking news

The Club has two indoor tennis courts booked at the Vale of White Horse Tennis Centre on the last Friday of each month, starting at 20:00.

Our last session was well attended, with 11 members enjoying 2 hours of competitive doubles play.

The next session is on Friday, 30th March and we would like to see more members coming along. All we ask is that you let us know in advance that you want to play, so we can judge whether we need to book an additional court.

He is raising money for the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust which supports disability’s in tennis.

The attempt will take place on Monday 8th August all the way to Thursday 11th August.

The aim is to raise £20,000; a huge target!
